At 70 years old, Mrs. Pat begins each day with a role she carries with deep love and responsibility — caring for her 93-year-old mother, S, Johnson. Their mornings start quietly in the kitchen, where breakfast is prepared with patience and familiarity. Alongside the meal comes an important routine: organizing and taking morning medications. For Mrs. Pat, this is more than caregiving — it is a daily expression of gratitude for the woman who once cared for her.
Once breakfast is finished, Mrs. S Johnson looks forward to one of her favorite parts of the day: sitting on the front porch. Wrapped in comfort, she watches the neighborhood come alive. Neighbors wave, stop to chat, or simply smile as they pass. These small but meaningful interactions help her feel connected and remind her that she is still an important part of her community.

By mid-morning, it’s time for rest. A short nap helps Mrs. Johnson recharge, preparing her for the rest of the day. When she wakes, she often waits eagerly for phone calls from family and friends. Hearing familiar voices brings her joy and keeps her spirits high.
Technology also plays a small but special role in her day. With help from her grandchildren, Mrs. Johnson learned how to use a tablet. Because of her eyesight, she is limited to about 45 minutes of screen time, but she makes the most of it. She checks in on the world and listens to her favorite gospel music on YouTube, filling the house with uplifting songs that bring her comfort and peace.
Weekends are especially cherished. Visits from children and grandchildren turn ordinary days into celebrations. Sometimes they share a home-cooked meal, and other times they go on short shopping trips if Mrs. Johnson feels up to it.

While caregiving brings joy, it can also be challenging. Mrs. Pat admits that wanting the very best for her mother can feel overwhelming at times. To manage stress, she leads a monthly women’s group where she teaches financial literacy, credit health, and spiritual wellness. Helping other women grow gives her strength and purpose.
In addition, Mrs. Pat continues her own journey by pursuing an associate degree in business management. Balancing school, leadership, and caregiving shows her resilience and dedication.
Together, their days are filled with faith, routine, and unconditional love — a powerful reminder that caregiving is not just about responsibility, but about honoring family, connection, and legacy.
